Taking on the Mongol Rally
Seaspace International are proud to announce that we will be sponsoring the MIND Over Matter team at the Mongol Rally 2015, as they make their way across Europe and finish in Ulan Ude, Russia. Over the next couple of months we will be updating you with the team’s journey and challenges along the way, so be sure to follow our Facebook Page to keep up. But, what is the Mongol Rally, we hear you cry?
The Mongol Rally is a yearly event that compiles 10,000 miles and some scrappy cars into a month of fun. The journey begins in England on the 19th July, and our rally-ers Alec and Steve will be making their way across Europe and Asia to Russia – just a day’s drive away from the city Ulaanbaatar. Sounds like a trip of a lifetime right? But these boys are going to be roughing it out for weeks to come.
The Rules
Organised by The Adventurists, the Mongol Rally has a few simple but harsh rules:
- No backup and absolutely NO support – you’re on your own.
- Your car has to be small and crap – under 1 litre cc.
- Your team has to raise £1000 for charity; £500 to go to Cool Earth and the other £500 to a charity of the teams choice.
- No GPS, no gismo’s or gadgets, you’ve got to make your way there yourself and the end date is up to you.
The team and the charity
When we heard about Alec and Steve and their amazing global adventures we just had to get involved in this latest epic, their hardest challenge yet.
The guys are raising money for mental health charity MIND, who provides advice and support to anyone going with mental health problems. The money raised from the Mongol Rally will go towards improving services and raising more awareness and understanding surrounding these issues.
A local dealership has donated a bright yellow Nissan Micra to trek across the world with. It will be kitted out with all the essentials (and probably some non-essentials too) for surviving the trip and decorated with the Seaspace International logo, so instantly recognisable! You’ll get to meet the car and the guys in posts to come.
How you can help…
The guys have already raised their pledged £1000 for the rally, but there’s no limit as to how you can help! If you’d like to raise money for MIND, head over to the guys’ just giving page where you can donate and leave them a message. Every little bit goes a long way towards helping MIND, and really encourages the guys along their 10,000 mile rally!
