London International Shipping Week returns for the first time since 2015 and takes place from 11th to 15th September in the UK’s capital. John Murray, the Chief Executive of the Society of Maritime Industries has stated;
“The focus which London International Shipping Week brings to the maritime sector is a reminder of the global capability in engineering and design which exists in all parts of the UK and across all aspects of this strategically important industry.”
London Shipping Week 2017 brings together over 15,000 leaders from across the shipping industry including international policy makers and UK Government. This makes it a must attend event for everyone involved with shipping and there will be vast amount of experience and knowledge being shared over the five days in symposiums, presentations, seminars and more.
The week will comprise of 160 industry functions and networking events so there is plenty of choice as to what to see and who to meet. In fact, it will be a difficult decision choosing which ones to go to as you couldn’t possibly attend them all! Some of the forums that we’re interested in finding out more about are:
- The UK is open for shipping businesses
- London – the global shipping centre post-Brexit?
- Shipbuilding Breakfast Forum
- Spotlight on Maritime Careers
- Cyber Security Seminar

And perhaps also the Dragon Boat Race at the end of the week!
Amongst these events there will be presentations by the some of the ports, indeed the Chief Executive of Associate British Ports, James Cooper, said; “London International Shipping Week is a fantastic showcase for Britain’s maritime offer to the world. It is a powerful demonstration of the Government’s commitment to maritime and our industry’s determination to help drive exports and support economic growth.”
Indeed, with the reality of Brexit upon us, London International Shipping Week has come at a time when the UK needs to be showing it is a world class global hub when it comes to trade and industry, as well as a major player in the maritime industry. Here at Seaspace International we are looking forward to the opportunities the week will bring.
